Religion
Religion in Aphroditus was extremely important and was practiced by all citizens. Many of the slaves were taught about greek mythology because most of them did not come from Greece. There were two major gods in Aphroditus, Poseidon and Dionysius. Poseidon was important to the citizens because they lived on the water and had many sailors and fishers that would pray to Poseidon to have a prosperous day and to catch an abundance of fish to trade it with more inland city states. Dionysius was another important god because one of the main crops grown and traded in Aphroditus was grapes. The citizens would turn grapes into wine and trade it with other countries where wine was not easily made. Also, Dionysius, who is the "party god," symbolizes a happy, prosperous life for the citizens of Aphroditus. However, the most important god, in which the Acropolis was dedicated to, was Aphrodite. Aphrodite was very representitive to Aphroditus, which is where the name derived from, and was worshipped greatly because she is the goddess of love, beauty, desire, vegetation, fertility, and the sea. Since many of the people in Aphroditus were wealthy, they could afford to value beauty, love, and fertility. She was also the daughter of Poseidon, and Aphroditus was located near the sea and grew its own vegetation.
